Our design studio offers creative services in graphic and user experience design, along with more research driven work, including editorial and copywriting. Our strength is in understanding complex artistic and academic briefs, where attention to detail and intellectual integrity is an essential part of the project or brand. Whilst we’re a digital-first studio, we also have a wealth of experience in traditional book design, having produced artist monographs, exhibition catalogues and printed material for museums and galleries. Our design-philosophy is to prioritise a respect and sensitivity for both the content and the audience. Those needs should come first, so design can recede, allowing the content, narrative and organisation to take priority.

Some of our previous design work includes online exhibitions for the Museum of Art & Photography, the Suresh Punjabi Archive as well as book design for Penguin Books, Random House, Prestel Publishing and HarperCollins.

Curatorial
How museums deliver their programmes to both stakeholders and the public is an art in itself. This information typically needs to be communicated over a range of touch points, keeping diverse audiences, questions of accessibility, marketing objectives and other objectives in mind.

We work with a network of independent curators, researchers and exhibition designers to help cultural organisations develop a wide range of content, ranging from writing annual reports, case studies and marketing material, to researching and writing curatorial notes, exhibition didactics or even authoring entire books. We also work closely with museums to develop museum education initiatives, from researching and writing articles to producing online courses.

Our previous research and writing projects include copywriting for publishers such as Prestel Verlag/ Penguin Random House, HarperCollins and Mapin. In a curatorial capacity, we have produced exhibitions for institutions and festivals including the National Museum of Bahrain, the Japan Foundation, the Museum of Art & Photography, Jimei X Arles International Photography Festival and the Monash Gallery of Art.

Archiving collections is one of the most challenging, potentially capital-heavy and complicated projects a cultural organisation can embark on. It is also one of the most important to get right, as it has long-term implications on all departments of the organisation, as well as ensuring the care of the artworks for future generations and audiences. We provide end-to-end strategy and project management relating to collections, and our work ranges from digitising and cataloguing small private collections, right up to working with vast and diverse museum collections of hundreds of thousands of objects.

Each collection project is as unique as the artefacts it manages. We can advise on which Collections Management Systems to use, as well as build custom solutions specific to the needs of your institution. We then either work in a consultancy capacity with your existing staff, or build teams of researchers and cataloguers with the correct domain expertise, who can work alongside your own specialists, until projects can be handed over.

Some of our previous collections management and archiving projects include work for the Tate Modern, the Museum of Art & Photography (as part of Microsoft’s AI for Cultural Heritage initiative), Source Photographica, the Suresh Punjabi Archive and the Jyoti Bhatt Archive.

Specialising in artworks from South and Southeast Asia, we offer a number of services relating to the acquisition and sale of artworks, advising private, corporate and museum clients across the world.

Through his previous role as Partner of the Tasveer Gallery, Cara’s Director has helped build collections of South Asian art and photography for major international museums including the Tate Modern, MoMA, The Cincinnati Art Museum, The Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as private collectors around the world. These services are now continued in an advisory capacity through Cara’s consulting arm. As part of this work, and in addition to our art-historical, market and academic knowledge, we have a wealth of experience in the legal and ethical concerns of the sale of artworks from Asia, including art law, antiquities acts, logistics and insurance.
